ABOUT

Students will begin this course by identifying career paths within the vocational profession of Graphic Design & Illustration. They will learn illustration skills such as linear perspective or drawing through direct observation through the use of various mediums. Another area of study will be the use of color theory and application - applying the basic structure of color (hue, intensity, saturation) to generate color solutions. Students will also learn Graphic Design skills by using industry standard programs such as Adobe In Design, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Design, layout and production will be covered in this course by applying the elements of art and the principles of design to a multitude of projects. Students will also be able to identify the anatomy and classification of type, operate a digital camera and its accessories, prepare a portfolio and participate in the interview process while taking inventory of their personal career interests & goals.

Full Sail University

Full Sail University is dedicated to the encouragement and development of future generations of entertainment, media, arts, and technology professionals. In an effort to further this encouragement and development. Full Sail University introduces the Gateway Scholarship for High School Seniors. This scholarship is designed to offer assistance to students who have already begun their journey into the entertainment, media, arts, and technology industries during their high school career. Full Sail University has partnered with Octorara Area Senior High School's OACTEP Graphic Design & Illustration course, offering scholarships to those who qualify. The Gateway Scholarship for High School Seniors will award up to $15,000 to eligible campus bachelor's degree program candidates. 

Pennsylvania College of Art & Design

Pennsylvania College of Art and Design (PCA&D) is partnering with Octorara School District  (OSD) to provide the opportunity to qualified high school juniors and seniors to enroll in credit-bearing courses that contribute to their completion of secondary education graduation requirements and initiate their studies in post-secondary education. Under this agreement, students may earn concurrent high school and college credit, as approved by the school, school district, and/or the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Courses eligible for dual enrollment are selected from general education courses, post-secondary certificate program courses, and foundation studio courses offered by PCA&D. Enrollment is subject to student’s qualifications as well as course availability. Students may take up to six credits a semester or twelve credits per year under this agreement. PCA&D courses are taught by PCA&D faculty members.

OSHA 10-Hour General Industry *
 

Throughout this interactive online program, students will explore a wide variety of occupational safety and health topics that together provide a perfect introductory overview of what it means to be OSHA safe. The OSHA 10-Hour General Industry course covers a wide range of safety modules, including workplace hazards and workers’ rights.

Employability Skills *

The CareerSafe Employability Skills library provides tangible skills and strategies to propel your career forward. Applicable in all fields, these courses focus on the professional soft skills identified by the Department of Education as what employers are expecting before day one. 

NOCTI **

The Commercial and Advertising Art PA Assessment was developed based on a Pennsylvania statewide competency task list and contains a multiple-choice and performance component. This assessment is meant to measure technical skills at the occupational level and includes items which gauge factual and theoretical knowledge. This exam will be taken by all seniors that have had at least 2 years in the OACTEP program.

Each certification is tied to one Creative Cloud application. Exams are developed and delivered by Certiport, a Pearson VUE business.
